| March 24, 1947 My Dearest -- You made a very solid impression on everyone yesterday. My parents liked you very much. Dad very much approved of your way of not "pushing yourself in". Niles thought you were "swell". My dearest John said, "He has a nice way about him." (which is high praise). I was very much afraid you were bored. Found you very quiet. You mentioned once that perhaps you were "painfully direct". It occurs to me that I too could be considered just that in view of my discussing apartments, money, etc. Here again I did not receive much articulate response. Hope you are not finding me too aggressive. Can not seem to let myself be idle these days. I keep moving, doing things to keep thinking of you -- longing for you, Wednesday seems so far away. I guess human beings are never satisfied at first, receiving a letter a day from you seemed enough. Then the Saturday to Sunday arrangement seemed like it might suffice. After seeing you Wednesday, I'll probably feel cheated if it doesn't happen every week that way. Hope you will mention in tomorrow's letter the arrangements for meeting on Wednesday. We never did decide on this yesterday. Strangely for me, I can't think of anything else to say now -- so I'll get back to my ironing. Good night -- Bless you -- Love -- Emily. |
