Yale Station: Letters of Love

My Dearest -- This hectic Saturday is, thank Heaven, drawing to a close. These vultures have saved their many, little jokes about my engagement, for today. And, oh brother! Did I get the business. It all boils down to "Wait! Just wait -- and in five years we'll talk to you again, asking the same questions. Just one guarantee, there'll be a big difference in the answer!" None of this, of course, made any impression on your angel. Completely impervious she remains. Though her heart holds a prayer that nothing diminishes with the years. That none of the luster be dulled. Guess I've said that problems big or little will be almost welcome -- just so long as you're "on my side". George, to many people, life is a pretty dull business. In the last few days so many people have wished me luck adding, "May it always last--", and silently "Though it didn't for me." I ache to think that there may be the day for me with nothing to think about, and only need the day when just speaking very softly will call you to my side -- Your -- Emily.
